Instructor Bio:

Andrea Brokenshire (AMB Fiber Art and Design) is a national and international award winning fiber artist and instructor from Round Rock, Texas who specializes in contemporary art quilts which depict botanical imagery inspired by her photography. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Oregon State University in 1984. She combines her love of the natural world and fabric with her art. Andrea’s art quilts depict large scale painted floral designs on silk fabric that are then machine quilted onto a “confetti” background of multiple fabrics. “I try to express the essence of a flower with fabric. For me, the creative process is a journey as essential as breathing - an expression of self”.

After much success entering competitions within her local area, a catastrophic illness (Toxic Shock Syndrome) in 2005 abruptly ended Andrea’s quilting. After a two year hiatus, she rediscovered the simple joy of quilting and experienced a creative epiphany and found her own unique voice of creative expression.

Having no talent for growing things, she envisioned a garden of quilts based her photography. Initially, she created flowers using the template raw-edge appliqué technique. In 2009, Andrea transitioned to painting realistic floral imagery onto silk charmeuse.

Since then, her award winning Art Quilts have been published in several creative art publications, been featured in various gallery exhibitions, and hung in several local, national and international quilt venues. Andrea is continually honing her style and pushing the creative boundaries of her imagination with her painted botanicals.
